Ms. Shearron is a 23-year-old new teacher at Jo Byrns. She wasn’t aware of Jo Byrns until a friend of hers told her great things about the school and its environment. She came to Jo Byrns High School to teach art on the secondary level, as well as to obtain a fresh start and new experiences.

Though this is her first teaching job she knew from the time she graduated high school from Davidson Academy, that she wanted to be an art teacher. She followed her dream by attending the University of Tennessee at Martin to major in art education. She thought about majoring in English as well because she was always good at reading and literature in school, but she believed that art was her calling.

Even though she has only been at Jo Byrns for a short amount of time, she described it to be very similar to her high school experience at Davidson Academy. She says that “it is a very close knit, much my Davidson school family. Very supportive parents and teachers who are always willing to help students succeed!” She also talks about how she likes how Jo Byrns is extremely welcoming and how open everyone is to helping her as a new teacher.

Shearron describes her teaching method as laid back. She likes to allow for creative expression but always tries to keep a safe balance between having fun and having control in her classroom. She also states, “I think that it’s very important to create a good relationship with your students. When you have this relationship, they know that you are here for them and you believe in them and I have come to learn that students work harder when they have that positive reinforcement behind them.”

Overall, we would like to welcome Ms. Shearron to the JBHS faculty and wish her the best in learning about our students, community, and athletics. When you see her on the football stands on Friday nights, be sure to introduce yourself!
