Mr. LaMar one day decided that he and his family, who were living in Detroit, wanted to live in a rural
area. The LaMars packed up and moved down to Tennessee where Mr. And Mrs. LaMar now teach at Jo
Byrns High School, where they only live 30 minutes away.
We asked Mr. LaMar, "What is it like having your wife teaching as well?" Mr. LaMar responded, "It is
great; I can bounce ideas off her, we save gas riding together, and we get to have lunch together." He
also stated that they had enjoyed their new start at JBHS.
In college, Mr. LaMar majored in Biology; as to his experience in education, we asked, "have you taught
prior to JBHS?" LaMar replied, "I was at Army Medical Center and School at Ft. Sam Houston for three
years, I ran EMS education for over 2000 medical personnel in South Korea for one year, and I taught at
the US Army Armor school at Ft. Benning in Georgia for three years for a total of seven years of
teaching."
The experience at JBHS for the LaMars is "very hectic but I think once we're settled in, we are going to
love it here, " he said. What he loves most about JBHS is the small-town feel. We also asked about his
teaching method. Mr. LaMar replied, "I have a firm set of rules and procedures; other than that, I am
laid back."
The things Mr. LaMar enjoys most about his job is making science fun and seeing his students
enjoy science.
Therefore, make sure you introduce yourself to Mr. and Mrs. LaMar and tell them how much we are
glad to have them at Jo Byrns.
